Domino’s Pizza Delivered by Drones
Domino is the name of a brand of pizza, but the company also makes appetizers, pasta, cakes and desserts. They are working on delivery by drones, too.
Domino’s has been around for over 80 years, but it wasn’t always a pizza chain. In the beginning, they were just a small family business. Today, the company is worth billions of dollars and has over 200,000 employees.
They deliver pizza to more than 400,000 addresses in the US, and they have thousands of stores worldwide. Domino’s believes that local business is the key to their success, so they focus on supporting their franchisees and giving back to the communities where they are located.
Hevesh began playing with dominoes as a child. Her grandparents had a classic 28-pack, and she loved setting up straight or curved lines and flicking them. It was a thrill to watch the entire row fall, one domino after another.
As she got older, she started posting videos of her domino setups on YouTube. Now, her channel has more than 2 million subscribers. Her mind-blowing setups have been featured in movies, TV shows and even a Katy Perry album launch. She has worked on projects that involved more than 300,000 dominoes and helped set a Guinness World Record for the most dominoes toppled in a circular arrangement: 76,017. Her largest installations take several nail-biting minutes to fall. Hevesh creates these intricate displays using a version of the engineering-design process. She tests each section of an installation to make sure it works as intended. She then adds the rest of the pieces, working from flat arrangements to 3D structures like towers and pyramids.
The word domino comes from the Latin dominium, meaning “flipper.” A domino has potential energy, which means that it could tip over if someone flips it. Once a domino is placed on its edge, it converts some of that potential energy to kinetic energy, which gives it the push needed to topple the next domino and so on, in a chain reaction that continues until all the dominoes are down.
If you’re a writer, you can use the domino metaphor to describe how scenes work together in your novel. If a scene in your plot doesn’t have enough impact on the story, it may not help build tension or lead to a satisfying conclusion. For example, if your character uncovers important clues in one scene, but in the next she fails to act on them, that’s a problem.
There are many different games played with dominoes, from simple block-building and scoring to trick-taking. One of the most popular, 42, is similar to spades and is played with four players paired into teams. Each player draws seven dominoes, and each team scores points for winning tricks (any domino with a number multiple of five counts as a trick). The game has been popular in Texas since the early 20th century.
