The Basics of Roullete

Roullete, or simply roulette, is one of the world’s most popular casino games. This classic game is simple enough for beginners to enjoy, but it also provides a surprising level of depth and high rewards for serious betters. It’s no surprise that the game has offered glamour, mystery and excitement to casino-goers since the 17th century.

A croupier (that’s what they call dealers in roulette) throws a ball into a spinning wheel, and players can still be making bets while the wheel is in motion. The ball then bounces around the pockets until it settles on a number. If a player’s bet was on that number, they win. There are many other betting options too, such as red or black, odd or even and the first or second dozen. These are known as ‘outside bets’ and offer lower payouts, but higher chances of winning.

There are a few other rules to consider, too. Before you start betting, set a budget and choose a table within your limit. Each table carries a placard with the minimum and maximum bets allowed on it. Some tables have low minimums for inside bets, while others have higher maximums for outside bets.

Once you’ve made your bets, the croupier will announce that no more bets are being accepted. Then she will clear away the losing chips and pay the winners. Once that’s done, the roulette process starts again.

If you’re looking for a more realistic house edge, try playing European roulette. This variant uses a single zero pocket on the wheel, which dramatically reduces the house edge to 1.35 percent. It’s also the most played version in physical casinos and online. If you want a more challenging version, try the French variant, which has two special rules called la partage and en prison. La partage lets you keep half your stake if the ball hits zero, while en prison means you get back a portion of your lost wager. It’s a great way to reduce the risk of a bad run and increase your potential for a big win. The only downside is that you’ll have to place your bets in a different pattern.
